A Vegas trip and Comics

An adventure was to be had this weekend as I headed up to Las Vegas, NV. I first started out on Friday morning with Lessa Michelle picking me up and then heading back to her house as she forgot some prints that were going to be needed for the event at Comic Oasis. After picking up the prints, we began the real part of the adventure trying to "wing it" with some GPS navigation that we were skeptical on. Not sure why, but we just were. The system says to take the exit to Bullhead City which would be exit number whatever it was but when the exit came up, there was no Bullhead City name on said sign, so we passed right by it. Doing so, I saw the sign on the top of the hill that the exit took you to and realized that the Bullhead sign was up there. After going over the California state border, we turned around and headed that way.

We took the winding road slowly as the area was something out of a horror movie and came to a four way intersection with no signs. "Which way?" we asked each other and decided to ask directions at the Shell station there. Perfect photo op for Stormy and Deadpool who tossed their two cents in with which way we should go. After we asked, we were told to go back the way we came through California and then take the highway around. Sweet, here we go visiting 2 states in one day and back again. We're on the right path now! Everything goes smoothly from then and only an hour was tacked onto our drive. Conversation, though, was what kept on the sanity train. Speaking of trains, Lessa was sure excited to see them, which amused me. We finally arrive at Brieanna Brock's home. Time to stretch the legs.

After the greetings and raiding their pantry, we started the drinking part a bit earlier than the drawing part. But after one, we head on out to Choice's Pub Grill to meet up with the rest of the gang and enjoy each others company. More Deadpool and Stormy pics were taken and even they met up with a pal of theirs, Galactus. Exciting night for everyone. Well, almost everyone as I was attacked by the bathroom door. Coming out of there, the door swung back fast and smacked me in the ear, leaving me stunned for a moment. Why tell you this and give you all something to joke about? Because it was seen by others who were there and if I don't mention it, they will. Saving some time.

After we called it a night at the Pub, we headed on back to the house where Lessa crashed out on the couch and the rest of us picked up some plastic instruments and play some Rock Band 3. That is, until some of us were too tired to hit any more of the notes and called it a night (i.e. ME) and so that was the last I saw of that day. Tomorrow comes the event. Must get beauty sleep.

Wake up and breakfast is being made. Eggs, bacon and hashbrowns. Brieanna knows how to make a mean breakfast. After getting ready, we get ourselves to Comic Oasis and set up! One by one we all arrive and as with any and all events, had a blast. Talking with some new artists and seeing their awesome creations is always something that is exciting for me. Especially seeing the work that the Las Vegas locals, Charles Holbert and Brice Gielgens as well as the awesome cosplay that Kit Kendall does. If you are not familiar with them, you should be. Look them up on Facebook. Hanging out at Comic Oasis was a great time and Derrick Taylor as well as the rest of the crew (Jeff, Holly and Carla) took care of everyone and were really cool to hang out with. So much was happening all at once that I'm probably forgetting some of it, but knowing that these people were awesome is the only thing that matters. Plus they were playing Bob's Burgers on the TV screen for everyone so that was a plus as I love that show. If you're ever in the Las Vegas area, please stop by Comic Oasis and drop them a hello and pick up a comic book.

After the show, we all headed out for a night on the town hanging out with the crew. After losing some piercings, breaking my camera and videos taken of us dancing, we made it back home before sunrise and crashed out. With the ride home just as entertaining but not so adventurous and the trip up there, I write this and post my pictures to fill in the blank areas of the tale. With that, I say, until next time.

Meet you down in the Comic cave....

...Because we have some reading to do. Now I'm not the most avid comic book reader as there are titles that slip right under my radar, but the ones that I have grabbed onto for the ride are enjoyable and keep me looking to the next one the day after it was released. Which can make for a long month if you're not careful to keep the excitement down a bit. There are some comics that I would like to give a shout out to and that would be Batman Incorporated and Batman and Robin. Batman is doing something good to me and I hope that they continue to do so. With Batman Inc., it is a nice refreshing breeze that Bruce Wayne has been giving once he realized that he cannot be the only Batman in a world filled with crazies and I'm always looking forward to seeing what new place that Bruce will be visiting next in the search for Bats continue.

Batman and Robin quickly became a favorite of mine, due to something most don't know, Dick Grayson is my favorite DC character of all time. From being the first Robin to Nightwing and now completing his transformation to the Batman, I'm all kinds of excited to follow him. Not just in Batman and Robin, but also in the Batman on going series (but that is chat for another blog). We've all seen how Bruce takes to being a mentor to the generations of Robin, but with Grayson taking on Damian, it makes for a formula that mixes well in the DC Universe. Not to mention that the writers are doing a pretty good job at keeping with the personalities of the heroes as well as the circus type theme for the ex-circus star, Grayson.

Now to move away from the DC Universe a bit and see a favorite comic of mine from the mind of John Layman, CHEW. It had me from "Hello" as the first issue was sweet and continues to do so. I've also had the chance to meet and talk with John Layman at the comic conventions and to hear the ideas that are planned for the upcoming covers just gets me even more excited for it outside of the interior pages. Then there is the newly released CHEW Script Book that is on shelves and soon to be in my hand. I've started to look past the artwork a bit and at the writing that is there. It started with the Director's Cut to Green Lantern's Blackest Night and then there were some extras in the back of Nemesis that I enjoyed as I am a fan of how comics are being made from script to print. Now that CHEW has a script book, I'm all over it. If you're a comic book writer or just like to see another step in the comic series, you should be all over it as well.

Finally, Venom #1. By finally, I mean this is the last thing that I'm talking about here and its out! The new take with old characters is something that excites me and it is not different from Venom. With a new host to the symbiote, I like that the military is trying to make it (symbiote) do the good that they believe they can accomplish. I'm also a fan of things getting messed up in a way that all hell break's loose. That's what I'm looking forward to in Venom. I mean, how long do you think Flash Thompson can go being the hero for his country to wanting a taste of Spider-Man's brains?

It is all just a matter of time before he loses it and it will be good times. For me at least.

The Awesome MAD-ZEN Party!

   ...And that's just what it was. A party of epic awesomness. My streak of being the first artist on the scene has been broken (thanks Caleb!) but that's alright. I was the second on set and ready to rumble. After setting up my merchant's tent, I helped out with the locals area to make sure they were all comfy. You have to look out for one another, right? I think next time I'll have some water bottles for ya. Anyway, local greats such as Jeff Pina, Spazdog Press' own Matt Goodall, Jacques La Grange and Shawn Demumbrum, the always lovely Madame M and Sir Glen Curren, Alfred Trujillo, Jolene Houser, April Reyna, Shelby Roberston, Lessa Michelle and Brieanna Brock, Jean Arrow, Caleb Bishop, Mike Kessler, Christian Villaire along with the guys at Evil Robo (Zip, Eric Schock and Henry Barajas) started to trickle in and get themselves set up with pencils, pens, brushes and markers in hand ready to take on any blank comic cover and sheet of paper that stood in their way. There was even a DJ already set up and cranking the tunes for all the people that came on by to get their Jesse James Comics variant cover to Zenescopes Myths & Legends #2. If you haven't picked up your copy already, you need to get there now as there was a few left when the party wrapped up, but I'm not going to make any promises that there is any left now.

   Pictures being taken, laughs filling the rooms and comics going to good homes, the morning was a blast. Could this get any better? Sure it could. Before the question could be asked or even thought of, the heavy-hitters of Zenescope make there presence known. Raven Gregory, Eric "ebas" Basuldua, Mike Debalfo along with his wife Mary Debalfo and Nei Ruffino walk through the front door, ready to feed the hungry fans waiting with stacks of Zenescope titles in their hands. The group still isn't complete though. Everyone is called out to the DJ table out front as we eagerly await two more guys from Zenescope. Joe Brusha (President) and Ralph Tedesco (writer-in-chief) pull up with a warm welcome, everyone cheers and claps as they get out of the car and walk up to the store. Now the party can really begin..

The Comic Cave was all set up with super comfortable couches that when sat in, you didn't want to get back up to get to your table again. All the artists signed the Comic Book War Room to show that we were there and then you grabbed some pizza and cookies and anything else that was back there that I somehow missed (Thanks everyone at Jesse's for the grub!).

   Thank you to everyone at Zenescope that made it down and as always my brothers and sisters in the local scene that continue to kick some ass and make every fun and the fans that make every event worth coming to. It is you guys that are the best!

   If you made it down to meet the guys that give you the Grimm Fairy Tales, Charmed, The Waking and the other many titles that you love, then that's great for you. If you didn't make it, then you missed out! These guys coming from Pennsylvania and California for this release party. You normally have to be at a Comic Con to get such a group together at once. It was business and fun wrapped all together to make this day memorable.

There are many ways to describe this weekends kick off to the Comic Convention year. Amazing Arizona Comic Con got it started in a very progressive way not only with A+ talent but a huge array of locals and out of state talent as well. I mean come on Kirkman,Loeb,Liefeld,Pulido,Layman,Ottley,Gregory,Debalfo and Ebas just to name a few makes a fan's "Who do I go see list" extensive and also beyond exciting!"

Now, when I go to the con's I have a agenda HMMMMM let me see;

Oh and whats that other thing AHHHH yes a Fanboy!

So I'm going to write this as a FANBOY and your going to LOVE IT! No politics just plain and simple, through the eyes of a maniac.......errrrr i mean Comic Book enthuses.

Okay so Of course, I have to go see my good friends Pulido and Layman first. So I go in and turn the corner and BANG there is Layman standing by himself (how does this happen) we do the manly Hug and Handshake and I know from that point it can't get any better then this! I attend his panel and start to go into the con! Boom (yes I'm playing John Madden football using his lingo) a sea of fans EVERYWHERE jousting for positions in line or pushing and shoving to get to the next booth to get the last con variant! Ooooohhhhh wait that was me doing that! Sorry about that. The fans were awesome and the "Ohhh and Awes" were like Papa John showing up with a bus load of pizza! On a side note can he not throw the football pretty far in his commercials?? HINT HINT CARDINALS!

So you look at the spread and you say okay I can forward or backwards. So I go where the flow takes me. Of course my film crew goes the opposite way. But that's another story. It's Artist Alley my type of alley. Its homegrown! Its the walk of future fame and fortune. I know almost everybody there so its like going to school and knowing that nobody is going to steal your Oreo cookies out of you lunch bag. I stop at every booth hanging taking pictures and looking at our future comic book icons. No matter what I do I know my heart is with the Locals who bust their *^* to do what they love. Everybody is smiles. Got some Ocho Bootlegs as well! Dam those bears! I mean Eric and Denny were rocking it out at their table! There were so many cool people I won't attempt to name them all in fear I'll forget someone and they will toilet paper my store.

So I head down some dealer rows and see a lot of cool stuff. Mike Banks of Samurai is slinging books and Marco of Pop Culture Paradise is handing out free comics I think to people.....hmmmmm now that I think about it I didn't get one!!! Dammit Jim I'm a fan boy not a dealer give me some of that!!! Just joking, he was handing out blank sketch covers to artist. By the way if you get a chance to meet his wife do it very nice lady! Its awesome to see the Golden age and silver age comics as well!!!

But it's just starting now the Row of Rows was next. Come on Bid Dog Ink and Zenescope Posse all in one area are you kidding me! If I brought a tent I would have stayed in that area. Let me see Tom and Rob from BDI then you have Mike and Mary Debalfo (another if you get a chance to meet Mary she Rocks!) Milen, Raven,Ebas,and Nei! And like the Cherry on top of ice cream right after that BRIAN PULIDO okay let me say it one more time, and BRIAN PULIDO. Now I will say I'm his biggest fan though I know there are bigger fans than me but hey its my article so I'm his BIGGEST FAN. I get some good L.D. (that's lady death for you novice fans) and of course my 900th picture with him!

Then its off to get Kirkmans and Mcfarlane's JOHN HANCOMICS (you know Hancock's just sly verbiage) of course the line is long so I give up. So I go to hang with MR EISNER AWARD WINNER JOHN LAYYYYYYMANNNNNNNNNN LETTTTS GEETTTTTT READYYYY TO RUMMMBLEEE! Buffer style!!! (don't sue me Buffer I'm a fanboy right now) So we are hanging, talking and all that fun stuff staying out of politics (Republicans beware! lol he loves you though regardless) and I look up and theres Kirkman! So Kirkman and John are talking and I'm sliding my comics to him and saying stupid stuff as I'm doing that...(don't you hate when your moments of Awesome are dwindled by "Hey you like writing Walking Dead?" DUHHHH I'm a idiot I should have just said "Hey you like breathing?" That was a treat though.

Then its time to go to MCFARLANE's booth so I get a chance to hang and talk to him for about 5 minutes. I sneak my card to him. MORE like PLEASSSEEEEE take my card!! lol! No he was awesome as well.

I missed Loeb and Liefeld but I will get a chance at the next con!

I got to talk to Jimmy Jay (Amazing con organizer) and did some promo shots and really liked his commitment to the fans. I liked the flow of the con and felt like it was a cool place to hang out, get some autographs and pictures with a lot of cool Cosplay folks as well. The con had a feel of new comic book day and the freshness of a new series. It Comes out you read it, you like it and you crave more. Kudo's to the Con and the team and of course too all those who made the journey to this year's first con!

Its just a beggining for me this year for I plan on going to 16 cons. That's 16 until I actual talk (ask) my wife of course. When 2011 is all over I'm sure I will be saying "Amazing"!

A new meaning to November!

So every year I look at November and say Okay #1 Thanksgiving,#2 watch the Lions get beat by the Cowboys (maybe not this year though),#3 Eat more Turkey in one day then the rest of the year because for some reason I think that's the only day you can carve a turkey and eat it. (think about it I'm sure most of you would agree) #4 Prepare for Black Friday, and #5 can't wait till they stop playing Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer 1967 times on my favorite Rock station! Now that's pretty standard for the last 25 years so kind of used to it!
HOWEVER now theres a new reason to pull out a suit and get ready to rock with my favorite People and thats at The Tucson Con November 6th. NO turkey! No 50 to 7 Football game! No R THE RNR! No watching two ladies fight over a sweater that they might wear once in Arizona! No, Just True Blooded Comic Book fanatics all in One room! One day of slinging comic book gibber and taking pictures with you friends and family that you already have 50 pictures of already from other cons!
Now I have been going to Cons since 1982. Now my first one was hmmmmm where was that jeezzz San Diego I think. LOL just a moment of bragging rights! However in my 28 years had never heard of a FREE Con and was very skeptical of driving down there, well having someone drive me down there while I slept, (Thanks Zach and wingman Anthony)(PS before our next road trip someone at least get directions to the event, just a thought) because, come on its free how good could it be? I was assured by Promotions director Henry Barajas though it was going to be EPIC so why not! (freaking forgot to get a picture with him)
Now I'm on this site, which I just rarely use, called FACEBOOK  and realized a lot of Phoenix Creators were attending so no matter what I could hang with them.
Okay Four paragraphs in, I know talk about the Con!  Okay hold your NFL SUPERPRO"S here we go! So I walk in and BANG BANG it's POPPING,ZINGING, and "The Roof, The Roof is on Fire...We don;t (well you get the point). So unlike most cons when you walk in you walk straight in and see the whole sea of comic book love! Well here its make a right or left.......Oh the pressure which way I say..I go left and SHAZAM its the creators room! Oh what a sight people running around trying to find their camera while trying not to scream in shear delight and making sure they don;t hug the first 20 people they see...Oh wait that was me!  Its just like a PB & J no matter how you spread out the star ingredients its still going to be AWESOME (yes promotion and marketers you may use that line)
THE guest list was Jamocking!
The first table I walk up to has ERIC Mengel, Denny Riccelli, Ben Glenndenning and Daniel Davis CHA CHING!!!! I don;t remember the whole conversation but it was PIMPING ROCK CITY! Its like FOUR rockstars for the price ONE!
OF course to the Left of the Rockstars where Bohn,ANDY BOHN and Jamming JEAN ARROW rocking out sketches like they were going out of style.  Best smiles in the business! Of course my good friend Albert Morales was there hitting them out of the park! His art is like being behind the glass at Krispy Kremes you just want to break down the glass and jump right into the donuts and savor the taste of freshness! My bro Tosh Delaney was getting his jiggy on and pumping out sketches like it was gas for .99 a gallon at circle K!
Then the parting of the SEA came a PANEL with LAYMAN<DENTON<MARRIOTTE,  and Esquivel its like the World Series all in one room! Now all I can say is when you see these FOUR together its like having a full Keg of PEPSI (if you know me thats a very high compliment) The wisdom was STELLA and I really enjoyed it! Just a side note Denton Rocks a Cowboy Hat like no OTHER!
Of course TONY (THE IRONMAN) Parker was there as well. shhhh c'mon closure I'm going to whisper this to you..If you Don;t look at Parker's Portfolio your missing a good part of the show. Plus he is Comic Book COOL! OHHH Jolene Houser was there hanging like a fighter whom refuses to go down. Hope you get well soon!

Next to them theres Milen Parvanov who just keeps knocking out Unbelievable pieces Ninja style. Now next to him was this CRAZY UFO hidden message cover artist........LOL Mike Debalfo do I really have to say anything else..you all already know ..when he leaves! They announce Elvis has left the building! Mary and Kaylie looked awesome in their Cosplay uniforms! Best con Picture of the year goes to the Debalfo's!

Madame M is in the house as cool as the other side of the pillow. I thought I had to get a ticket to get in line and hear my number called to talk with her. She's was on fire!

I stopped by Daniel Davis's small booth! (yeah right) Dude do you like drive a bus down! Holy Display's Batman you have more goodies then Willy Wonka. Got to meet his Lovely wife Dawna as well. Talking about branding yourself watch Steam Crow and you'll be good to go!

What's up Spaz Dog press came to the game Dukes up ready to rumble! They got some rocking playa's and look forward to seeing their new Creations!Got to hang out in the middle of the aisle with Matt Solberg from something something for about a hour talking about something, something!!! Ha you would all like to know!!!

Anabel Martinez was sporting some cool goodies as well!

Of course ARIZONA AVENGERS dang if there was a Zombie outbreak I would be so sure of my safety you all are true Patriots to the comic book world and its fans. Eridessa was like in one outfit and then the next outfit looking good my friend! 501st was hanging there as well taking names and shaking down people!

Let's see whom did I forget.........yeah right Victoria Paege savor your moments with her when you see her! She is going to be doing movies with Tom Cruise one day and won;t have time for us little folks.. just joshing I know you won't forget us down here!! don;t forget I play a great tree!

Now my good friend John Layman......okay I know I have wrote more about him in another 20 blogs so I'll just say he is the MAN! Though I still think Chew should have a brother named Bacca!

Jeff Marriote you got to check out his Bio of creations I can't believe how many of my favs he has done!

Okay met Eric Esquivel and Dave Baker of Modern Mythology this was a long time coming and I really enjoyed talking to the new wave of creators that bring a extra funk to the playing field. I look forward to more of the creations in the future! So much for being the only person wearing a suit at every con ideal though! :)

OH OH OH I have Issues were there getting their game face on as well I was mad I missed their panel!! Show them some love and watch their show "I have issues" every week! Thomas send that check too...;)

Finally I got to meet Mike and Teresita Olivares! Mike is the director of this fabulous event and you can tell the passion he has to make it a AWESOME event. Of Course I'm sure Teresita is right there as well taking care of business.

I simply loved this con! I strongly suggest next year you come on down and hang with some great Comic Book fans and creators. Now I have 6 things to look forward too in November 2011! Now if I can just get you guys to serve Carved Turkey next year I'd be rolling!

Henry,Teresita, Mike, and your Fantastic team of volunteers I thank you for your time and your Passion in creating such a wonderful event! Heres to year 4!

So I give it a 5.5 out of 6.o on the Six Shooter scale. Two things better food vendor and get some Haweye posters up!!

Arizona's Creators Paradise

I never really new a LOCAL CREATOR till I moved to Phoenix. Being a Jack Kirby,Frank Miller,John Byrne,George Perez, and 80's fanboy, I really didn't have too. I was happy with the "wait for new issues day" or "go thru 10 cent sale boxes". It never occurred to me that a house down the street had a Eric Mengel drawing a Blue Superhero or a Christian Vilaire creating a comic based off some of his fellow creators in space. I had the Avengers to keep me company and Green Lantern to scare the bad guys away but also so did thousand and thousands of other kids.

As I started the store Shawn from Spaz Dog was always preaching remember the locals and support them as much as you can. I took it too heart but also realized I was a new store and had to concentrate on the key publishers. Mistake #1, as I have found out, was that the local creators are,Pardon the phrase "The Mob" (Gladiator phrase). They are the heart and soul of the pure essence of a comic book fan. Many sacrifice hours and hours away from family and friends that MIGHT become a hit among a small percentage of fans. Those whom are lucky move up the notch and continue to strive with a smile of accomplishment but a couple of dollars in their pocket. Those who fail don't give up and amaze me at their undieing desires to get that ashcan in one more persons hand.

I remember meeting Mike Debalfo in Ken's store Drawn to Comics last year and it was real cool to meet someone humble and gracious even though he was just getting his incredible art on a Zenescope cover. We just had his second appearance at the store and this was his 1st time as a Headliner. I will tell you the pride I had for him that he didn't sit behind his table and sign. He was up and interacted with his fans. Laughing and just having a blast. He was so kind to invite his friend Milen and graciously share his table without a after thought.

Now the list is long of these special warriors who have set up their war room at the store. Of course we started of with my favorite of all time Brian Pulido rocking the house. He knew I was nervous Being our first event, with my favorite, was beyond what one could imagine. My fanboy side said "Get his picture hang out laugh and be Mr. Biggest fan" and then my Hawkeye side said "Watch the store be responsible!" However Pulido being who he is just told me relax I got it! At the end he was gracious and let me know that he had a great time and looked forward in coming back (Dec 18th 2010 by the way he returns)

Of course Raven Gregory was next and really had a great time hanging with him. I remember he wanted a pizza and when it came he asked the guys around the table if they wanted a piece. He then went into the lounge and hung out with the crew and told stories and they laughed all night.

I then knew we had to show our love for the community. Our first M.A.D (Members Appreciation day) was like dancing with bees while stacking BB's. We ran around trying to find at least 3 guest to come and Anthony jumped in to be our 4th. It was fun and at the end of the day I knew we had something. We developed C.A.D (Creators Appreciation Day) And since then we never have looked back.

A couple of things happened. I had the honor of being the comic director of the Phoenix Comic Con and the arrival of the Fearsome Four came to the store for the first time.

The Con put me on a different playing field and I got to learn and meet many creators in a much faster time span. It allowed us to bring in more talent then we could ever hope for. As I move into my second year I look forward to meeting even more local creators and having even more fun! Yes I already have next years suits pick out!

The Fearsome Four are 4 creators that I really enjoy seeing on the invites. They are Jean Arrow,April Reyna,Andy Bohn,and Tosh Delaney. They still have the rookie eyes. They know what they want but they havn't gone through all the growing pains yet. It's fun watching them grow and their art work ,every week, gets even better. Also they are Face Book junkies so that's a plus right there.

I think the four guys that I really enjoy is Jeff Pina, Christian Vilaire, Denny Ricelli, and Eric Mengel they are true local vets and have never forgot were they started from. You can tell they love there work and see it in their creations. Any help they are a Fb away. There is NEVER a hesitation to ask them a question.

There are so many more creators, John Layman who is so humble you wouldn't even know he won a Eisner this year. The Iron Man of creators by far is Tony Parker! He has saved me so many times at Phoenix con I might have to buy him a suit for next year. The support he shows to others is BEYOND amazing.

Those whom have been just cool cats to the store Russ Kazmierczak,Albert Morales, Jolene Houser, Daniel Bradford, Ben Glenddenning, the RockStars of Spaz Dog Press, The Dude Steve Rude, Heather Martin,Micah Edsall,Alfred Trujillo,Glen Curren and Bryan Kilgore.

You have Xena Simon (or smith like I call her, sorry B) and Eridess Thaden whom always draw a crowd but always are so gracious and just plain Rad ladies. We will miss Xena Smith when see moves to my hometown in December. If you come to a event and you sy you missed them you weren't looking with your eyes open!

There are two creators whom I have become fans off. Madame M's work's in the non comic community is only matched by her work in the creators community. Helping out others is second nature to her and she has a wonderful supporting family to match. Victoria Paege is a one lady wreaking war machine! She is everywhere and some times two places at once. I didn't get a chance to work with her at con last year but look forward in our continued work in the future.

Okay I will tell you who Rocks and that's Liam of the Arizona Avengers. The honor and privilege to get to work with this guy is amazing. He has garnered my admiration on his hard work and dedication to his team and the community is unmatched. Iron Man,Black cat,Wanda,She-Hulk,X-23 and of course Deadpool you all rock!

I also want to thank my Team of Anthony and Andrew whom really keep the event from running wild. April and Justin for being solid help. My Mom and Dad for keeping me in check and My wife who supports me no matter how many times I forget about important dates in our life.

ALSO I would like to thank Rianne Vilaire she is the silent Warrior and has been a pioneer in events and making it happen. Arizona Derbay Dames RULE!

Now I didn't write this to just name drop but I did it to show that we are just one store. Its to show that these creator are more then just someone who just comes, sits down and signs and does commission. They are creators who want to express themselves anywhere and everywhere. So the next time you come to anybody's store event and you see some creators stop by and say "Hi" you don't have to buy anything (though if you can that would be awesome) trust me that goes a long way and makes them want to create even more! Many say you have to drive to San Diego or fly to NY to see great creator but I truly believe that Creators Paradise is in Arizona!

Plain and simple! I would walk into my LCS and say "I need a Avengers #110 please"...

1. They would grab it from the back.

2. I would say "yes I'll take it".

3. I would pay for it.

4.Ride my Huffy bike home.

5. PLOP on my bed and read it.

6. Bag and board it.

7. Check it off my list and store it.

8. Then, go to sleep figuring out how much I can spend for a Avengers #109 and how many hours I would have to work at the store for it.

This was standard comic book living for a 12 year old.

There was no,lets see how much I will make on this comic if I put it on Ebay or putting it on FB to brag about my grand purchase. Just a moment of self achievement and nothing else.

Then I learned how to price a comic and Mr Heiner would say "Sit down and go through every page!" I soon learned I wasn't looking for quality I was looking to see if all the cutout coupons were still in the book. Then I would grade the comic. The awesomeness of going through Marvel and DC comics from the 50',60's, and 70's at some points were overbearing and sometimes they were out right disappointing as I picked through Hulk #181 missing the stamp or a FF #48 missing a mail in coupon. My success rate was horrible out of 10 Hulks #181 there would be 3 intact with the coupon. Keep in mind a coupon in a HULK #181 could mean up to a $1500.00 swing in value. Now in 30 years I have own at one point about 7 copies of this but had gone through about 30 copies to find intact issues. Now finally Marvel learned the fact they were unknowingly decreasing there product value. They Stopped and went a LONG time before that tragic mistake would ever happen again.

Well that long time has ended and the Marvel Advertising team have done a down right stupid mistake of printing a cutout coupon in all there new issues this month. Not just one but I repeat all. Now people are saying "OH NO ONE WOULD CUT THAT OUT THEY WOULD COPY IT!" Hmmmmm how do I answer this one with out sounding like a A%^. There will be plenty of um.. er... nice novice collectors out there that aren't to savvy on the defacing of a comic book. Why would we ever give them that opportunity though? Marvel cashed the check (I'm sure it wasn't a check) and said "why should we care about the worth of a comic once it goes out our door?"

Bottom line Marvel you should! You should care about how much you charge the loyal reader and the loyal stores whom buy your stuff every week. You should care about your product having value and not the overbearing undertaking a fan has to do now knowing his new phrase is "hey is the coupon in it?"

Now is this just me being me on my soap box? Or is it me for every collector the last 75 years whom counted on Marvel and DC to always assure they don't redo their mistakes of the past. Time will tell 10 years from now. At least they didn't do a remake of NFL Super Pro Civil Alliance aftermath with a coupon in it or I would go IBER JEBERS on them!

"I would never sell my collection so it doesn't matter!" Yeah, won't even answer that one too busy sorting the 10 collection we bought this week from people who said they "Would never sell their collection!"

So do you care or should anybody care? It doesn't effect the story line. So next time your turning the page and see this square piece missing from the next page, ask yourself.. Does it really matter?

So I just absorbed SDCC 2010 after a week of saying okay now what did I do? Who is this in the picture? Why didn't I pick up those FREE Walking Dead Post Cards that are selling for $100.00 on Ebay?

Now its hard to say WOW like everytime you go to a Con and I'm not talking about when they ring up my Pretzel and Coke at the food stand! I'm talking when you walk in the hall. Well this year was diffrent I got me a yellow sticky sticker and went in 2 hours early!! Oh the joy of touching things you shouldn't be touching! Or sitting on Thor's Thrown without 900 people saying hurry up its my turn! Like there going to shut down the Thor's Thrown like 9 hours early.

Highlights;

Hung out with John Layman and Rob Guillory. (forgot to buy the limited SDCC print John told me to buy!) Of course me being a FANBOY of Brian Pulido had to do that stop....So freaking cool.....HEY HEY its your BLOG NO FANBOY WRITING! (from your brain) oh thanks for reminding me!...jerk!

Now a treat for me was I got to meet Jason Howard and Ryan Ottley of one of my favorite books of 2010 SEABEAR/GRIZZLY SHARK. Really cool guys can't wait for the seq.......oh thats a secret.

YO RAVEN AND MICHAEL from Zenescope of course is my FAV stop! Of course ran into one of ARIZONAS hardest working guys Tony Parker. Ran into Denny Riccelli who helped my search for My SUPER DUPER Highlight of the con NEAL ADAMS. I got to sit behind the counter and talk to him it was off the hook!

So it was a great Con for me and excited for next year...because I now know how to sneak food in the hall....and a better gauge of the bathroom to the Diamond Disturbutor booth in quicker and less steps.
However most off all I get to spend it with some Friends other wise known as Creators.

So maybe after 30 years my WOWS are not as loud but trust me theres enough to go around to meet my quietness!

Grimm never looked so GOOD!

Horror! You want Horror then this is it, Gold Key's Grimms Ghost stories came out in 1972 and unlike Twilight Zone it was true gore at its finest! However that was 1972! NOW ITS MODERN DAY and Zenescope is bringing the Gore back in Fashion!

Enter Grimm Fairy Tales a comic dedicated to your youth and memory of those great movies your parents took you too. Well, thats kind of right? The only thing that you will remember from the movies is the title. Other then that strap your boots on and get ready for your mind to say W.T.F! (WHAT THE FAIRY!)

There are so many players that are involved in one of the Best Indies out there from Joe Brusha, Ralph Tedesco,David Seidman, and, of course fan favorite, Raven Gregory and many more that have contributed to this awesome comic. Even the spin offs run rapid and are just as great!

Well it comes to this in a nutshell! Everything you find wholesome with family values you won't find to much here. Yes there is a time I might ERRRR I mean you might cry for instance, The Last Unicorn issue 43, last couple of pages. However, most the time your on the edge of your seat drooling for more!

Speaking of Drooling, if you don't know how to find the comic in your L.C.S just look for some of the greatest Comic Covers of all time! The covers are like when you see something a far on the side of the road and you tell yourself "I'm not going to look" but when you get to it you peak real fast! Well theres no peaking here you will be memorized by the richness of colors and WELL the women they but on the covers. (I hope they do a story on Star Wars one day with Princess Leia in that.........hmmm what was I talking about?)

Okay back to the story line. Imagine if Luke Skywalker said to Kenobi " I want to be a Dark Lord like my father" (wow back to back Star Wars flash backs) or Stan Lee laughing at Jack Kirby's character ideas and saying "NO way, its all about fluffy cuddly characters! Thats the direction Marvel is going!" Each issue is based on the orginal story line premise. However, Hansel and Gretel ends just a tad diffrent from it original ending. From Cinderella, Three Little Pigs and Snow White your minds are warped in following Sela, whom seems to be doing the right thing, but NO ONE freaking pays her Heed! They just create unneeded havoc and you LOVE it!

Now every issue you read there is a lot of imagination involved and you get to travel all over the place. The back ground art is FANTASTIC. Its main character Sela is easy to relate with and comes across as your friendly neighborhood country girl who is dressed quite, well..... lets just say you be the judge of that. (I think of Mary Ann and Daisy Dukes a lot when I see SELA)

Now the series is getting up there 46 issues and counting. You might have some problems finding some of the early issues. The print runs are not that big and they are trying to get as many print runs out as possible with out tarnishing the books collectability. And, of course you can always get the trades as well.

Now, these all have limited series runs. Most are 0-6 and are one story ARC and I highly recommended all of them. These are also much easier to find. Cover art is just plain Rockstar.

Now,believe it or not, this is the ONLY series I know in the history of comics that has a collector base of collecting the covers only. Some put it at 15%. Thats right they DON'T read the story at all. Crazy, but again check out a couple of covers and you'll know why!

Now, those of you that have read any off my blogs know normally I talk quite a bit about the story line. However in G.F.T there are just to many. I can just tell you try them all. They are keepers every one of them!

Now when you got Raven Gregory in the mix it just gets better. Yes, he is a local and might have some favortism in this blog! However, Drink a Pepsi and get over it! He is quite humble about his success but you wouldn't know it when you see his work. You would think this guy is up for HOURS and never sleeps. You might think he is always holding a pad of paper in his hand and all the needed items to create a masterpiece in his pocket 24 hours a day. (well except when Wrestlemania is going on) He keeps his phone on speed dial to tell Zenescope hs new rave!! Oh wait, I think he does all this already!

Raven brings it to us no hold barred! Steel cage match and a lot of chairs and trash cans to throw around. Look for him to always be in the forefront!

Now a pre-warning this Zenescope is a VARIANT juggernaut. So any dreams of getting them all, try the common comics first. Then their one shots and then limited editions. Some web pages offer every cover scans. I recommend http://www.comicspriceguide.com/ as one and there are some cool free sites as well.

Okay on my six shooter chart I give a 5.5. What holds it back from a 6 is the usual harder distrubution and some stores don't stock all the titles. Would like to see some higher print runs on the common issues. Help out and tell your LCS to stock this comic deeper including back issues.

A Boy and a Con!

I lived the hard comic book collectors life growing up! I mean come on I had to get out of school and go to work at the Friendly Neighborhood Comic Book Store 3 day's a week! The horrors of not getting a paycheck and getting paid in Comic Books, Bags and Board was unbearable. This was at the hard working age of 12!

It got worse! At 13 I decided to borrow $75.00 to set up my own booth at the Las Vegas Comic Con. Oh what a disater that was. I made over $900.00 and my booth was by that Green Alien Chic from Star Trek.

That same year the Friendly Neighborhood Comic Book Store had this guy .....hmmm what was is name...Jim, no Jerry, no that wasn't it either Oh Jack Kirby! Imagine a 13 year kid being forced into helping him set up his table for signing and watching the line so no one would cut. Then I had to figure out what stack of comics I would have him sign when everybody left. I had to sit there and gringe as he signed my comics and asked me Why I liked Hawkeye. Then ,if that wasn't hard enough, I had to go out with the owners (Tom and Mary Heiner) and Mr. Kirby for dinner and sit next to him while he told these crazy comic book stories.

NOW THE WORSE thing I havn't told you yet! In between 12 and 13 I was thrown in a truck and driven to San Diego for this thing call SDCC! The letters alone at 12.5 years old was scary enough! I mean what did SIDCEEE mean it wasn't in the dictionary. Oh! As we pulled up and I saw the banner SAN DIEGO COMIC CONVENTION!!!! So the big guy on campus goes to his first S.D.C.C in 1982! (on a side Note Malve Atomics Comics owner his first was 1985 Bang Bang got you Mike!)

So we checked in. I go to sleep that night just wondering what I'm going to find at the Con. I think there has to be at least 15 to 25 tables? (because Vegas Con had about ten its first couple of years!) I knew San Diego would have a tad bit more) OOPS forgot a part! Before I went to sleep I started to watch SDCC tv show and it was hosted by this Vampire woman telling us about how big the CON was going to be. So I wake up throw on my O.P shirt, slide on my bermuda shorts and have my pocket full of hard earned, mowing the law, cash! My $35.00 is going to get me something really cool! So I go into the elevator and Bang Bang there is that Vampire lady in the elevator. So I walk in and she says;

"Hi" and I say "Hi"!

She then says "Are you ready to have some fun at the con?" I smile and say "Yes Mam!"

She then Says "I'm the host. My name is ELVIRA!" I say "Cool!"

She Says "Do you know who I'm?"

I say "Yeah your that Vampire lady on TV!"

Conversation ends! I made a Vampire lady mad at me. I could see the nightmares when I go to sleep that night already.

Okay so I go to the front of the Con. The owners hand me my badge and say "Go through that door we are going to do some buying in another room."

So in 1982 at 12.5 years old I turn the corner to these double doors. I remember it as I'm writting this Blog like it just happened this morning! "WOW" (now to this day I can't remember if I yelled it out loud or said it in my mind) its disneyland no rides just comics! HUNDREDS of tables and Thousands of people! Now theres a point in the Lord of the Rings when the Fat Hobbit says "One more step this will be the farthest I have ever been from the shire" Well, I remember my first step through the doors a Bolt of lighting hit me and I could feel the energy of a new world and life I had just entered! It was the sound of music with the family on the hill dancing it was like eating my first piece of pizza in Italy! It was like trying to figure out how to pronouce Thano's correctly! (well maybe not the Thano's thing) I will never forget it. The rest of the con was a blur. I remember seeing George Perez (with hair) but everything else was just too much for my brain to handle.

Ah the hard life of 12 and 13 years old as a comic book collector!

Hence its 2010 I'm now a director of Phoenix Comicon. I'm now looking at it from the inside and trying my best, with a great group of leaders, to make it great for the fans. Now your going to see me running around like a comic with out a cover (I'm sly like that get it? Like a Chicken with its head cut off!)

Every once in awhile though, you will see me glance at the front entrance. For there will be a kid walking into the Con for his first time, and I'm guessing, that his first word will probably be "WOW!"

This is one comic you don't blow your nose too!

If I gave you a piece of paper and said "Okay you have 1 year, and I need EVERY idea you can come up with for a new comic story line" You would NOT have come up with this one! In fact its probably best not to know how Writer Sensation John Layman came up with this feasty idea. Let alone how Artist Rob Guillory said "Oh I get it and made the art in sync with story line!

Its about a Cipopath (no its not in the dictionary I looked) Tony Chu (love this last name so symbolic with the story)who uses Cipopathy (looked that up too NADA!) to solve crimes. How you ask? By eating the remains of victims! Not just the thought, but, he can see how the victim becomes a flavor and seasoned food additive.

Now, because of a massive outbreak of Avian Flu the goverment announces a Poultry Prohibition. You know how well this went for the US in the 1920's, you can just imagine what's going on late at night behind closed doors. He is hooked up with my favorite character Agent Mason Savoy of the F.D.A.

hmmmmm off the track ADS!!!!!

1. Take a Chew out of CRIME!

2. Chicken fingers where the fingers are 100% human!

3. What do you call a American, Russian, and a German? International Flavoring!

Okay back to the book! (make sure to tip your waitress)

The story is simply breath taking and of course you crave more. The art work is somewhat tasty in a sense that it just works with the characters. If you Love purple as a color this is a book for you almost every issue uses this color to grab your imagination. As you know, I love back ground art and surprisingly they got that right too. Brick walls actually show the bricks lining the wall! SWEET!

As Agent Chu evolves into that wholesome character you all want to be, (except the eating victims part) you start to appreciate his skills. As I got to issue #5, I simply forgot about how unusual his talents are and just went with the story. Of course you can't mistake the most elaborate covers out there. (still don't want to know how they come up with this art ideal)

What I love is the fact that it takes place everywhere and not just in his home town of New York! Now #10 just came out and you get into a more personal view of Chu's all out toughnest but of course like some tough guys he is shy around the ladies.

So lets just say if you like Buffets then Chew is for you! There's always a lot to look at, but you'll always get the same thing becauses its just always GOOD!

On the Six Shooter Chart I Give it a 5.5 out of 6. The only thing holding it from a 6 at this point is distrubution. "Please, Image get some more of this out to the public as fast as possible". Right now you can get CHEW #1 reprinted copy for $1.00 at your nearest comic book store while supplies last.

Final note, if your planning on going to Phoenix Comicon his table (JOHN LAYMAN) is definetly a stopping spot! (if he offers you food just say "I just ate!" )

Captain America "Who Will Rock the World"

Hey Steve Rogers grab your boots and your shield its time to Rock! Your vacation time has ended and its time to take the reigns. Now honestly your about 4th in ranking among the Elite. Going against Spider-Man, Wolverine and Marvel's bread winner DEADPOOL is going to be a hard road ahead. But hey its not like your a rookie at bat. Though THE Siege is Thor's dance it looks like you might be butting in and sheding the lime light.
Now there was that "Who Will Wield the Shield" issue but it looks like thats in the past once Bucky takes care of the 1950's Captain America, then you can take back your own comic book dynasty. Though Reborn in my mind was a distrubution error by getting #6 out so late, you still have all the eyes set on you!
So your hitting the big screen soon and your making your moves. However like I said your going against the likes of Deadpool whom seems to be in every freaking book out there. I think he was in Blackest night #8!

So heres some thoughts.,,,

1. Stop fighting the RED Skull

2. Don't turn into a werewolve again

3. If you find a beta tape of your first movie from the 70's burn it

4. Tell bucky to get a modern gun.

5. Stay away from water and Ice you always seem to be laying dead around them.

6. How about some rigid edge spikes sticking out of your shield

7. Black Panther and Falcon are cool but how about hanging with some other cool cats as well

8. Instead of yelling "avengers assemble" how about "Check out my blog at "Capt "A" Kick ass"

9. At the end of every cliff hanger No more RED SKULL

10. Tells some Jokes like Spiderman and Deadpool. It has been pretty good for them

Okay I'm excited to see how far Marvel takes Captain and of course its up to us to buy his stuff to keep him near the top. However he is just a guy in a suit trying to make it a better world! Or are we talking about Kick-ass right now? (no soldier serum so I guess not)

You stand for a lot Loyalty,Respect, and of course your word. I hope thats enough to have a box office smash and some huge record sales with the Avengers. At the end of the day though Wolverine and Deadpool rock because they kill and Spiderman well he just rocks! What are you bringing to the table?

So the fans wish you luck and hope we can support you of course with our Wallets, LOYALTY,RESPECT and of course our WORD!

Dark Horse The Terminator 2029

How do you duplicate over and over the same story line with the same characters. You Don't and you shouldn't. Well I thought I would see something new and fresh in Terminator 2029 but I didn't. The fact they didn't even appear to create a plot until the last two panels made it hard to finish the book.

It really starts off with two people on guard. These two are soon to be lovers it seems in further issues. However in Terminator that should only matter with Sarah Conner anything else is a waste of space. Their post time is over and they head back to camp on the way they meet up with Kyle Reese and enjoy some canned peaches with him. The camp is then attacked and the survivors escape. There is really no action involved. Reese blows up one terminator. You would think that some people would be getting fried or something. But they go back to the escape.

One truck breaks down, of course its the one with the two lovers and Reese. The can't fix it and have to go into the woods were there is a brigade of Terminator's waiting for them.

Now there is a new Terminator who can become human like but I think they did that in a Terminator movie before?

Over all at $3.50 if your buying this its for the long haul. Its bound to get better. Zack Whedon Who wrote Dr. Horrible is bound to bring the fire power in the next two issues. Andy Macdonald does some decent art work but again most is during the night time so not too much background art work (which I love)

Now there is a lot of mainstream press on this so I expect there to be something that floors me on issue #2!

On the Six Shooter chart I give this a 3.5 out of 6. All I can say is "I'll Be back!!!"

Chip #1 Antartic Press Richard Moore

Every once in a while I travel down the indie side of the track! Now Yes Im a Elf Quest,Cerebus, and Pacific comics type of guy and have been known to sling me some Lady Death, but by my 28 year comic collector status I'm a Marvel type of guy! However EVERY once in a while I pick something up and say well lets take a looksy! This time it was a comic by Antartic Press called "Chip" #1. Richard Moore creates a great character who is a baby gargoyle named Chip. Chip is like any other boy growing up who dreams the BIG dream. He day-dreams about being a Gargoyle guarding the great cities of Paris,London, and of course New York in reality he is just on a big rock over looking a farm. He spends most of his days on the prowl and sneaking up on his family and getting his Roar ready for the big game.
The book is funny as can be and even Elvira gets mentioned in the story line. Chip is constantly harrashed by the farm cat in a loving way through out the story. It brings you back to realizing he is just a little gargoyle with growing pains. He hooks up with a Fairy and they decide the best way to prove his readiness is to explore a hauted house He finally gets the courage to go in the house and finds out the old stories of the hauted house are true.
Now for some reason this is classified as a manga genre. I believe it can be a modern store line and enjoyed by everybody. The art work is awesome. Where it lacks some background art it makes up with its characters who almost embody every panel. Making a stone character into a beleivable human isn't that easy but they did a great job of it thoughout the story.
This for sure goes into my first read stack. On the Six Shooter chart I give it 5 bullets. I think it can get a 6 if they continue this great story line and include some back ground art. Its most likely a very low print run. However worth the search! Of course any comic that can get Elvira in the story line is a for sure WINNER!

You kicked some butt through the 80's a little in the 90's and poof you were gone!!! I don't mean from the comic scene but just gone from the good old boy rock and roll comic book universe. You have chosen somewhat to be a hobbit in a time where the fans from the 80's are craving your work again. I know you like to sit on your lounge chair and dream and read but hey how about one for the team! One last at Bat! One fa.... never mind that one but bring it on!!

Now John Byrne Robotics is cool don't get me wrong but I want to shake the cantalope and see if its ripe to eat. I want it sliced up on a plate and ready to be digested with a desire to have more.

So this 80' boy is saying MR Byrne time to get back on the horse and do what you do best make us shiver with you Fantastic art work and story lines like its the 80's all over again!

R.I.P=Resurrected into Present!

Do you remember when R.I.P meant "Rest In Peace"? Well, hello!Welcome to the 21st century! No longer does DEAD,KILLED or Blasted into little bitty particles means a Hero won't be back beating the bad guys again in a new comic book store near you. Now granted, I love that Ol' Capt Rogers is back (OCR for you text freaks) and he is so anxious not to Wield the Shield. In fact he came back into the Siege of Asgard, even before he came back in his own series Capt America Reborn #6 and in sense the present world. Here's a thought Steve, if you're watching TV in your uniform I think you want to be Captain America still (Siege 1 last page) just a hunch on that one though.

Of course Bruce Wayne will be sneaking back in a comic book store near you as well. Now if your new in collecting, keep in mind if Batman (B.W., "for you text folks again") really died in Final Crisis #6 I'm sure that it would be worth more then cover just a hint for you. Wow the first series he comes back in is titled The Return of Bruce Wayne HOLY COW. Must have took them months to get that title! Now the list goes on and on of those who have died and and come back and in some cases died again. Heck Marvels Ares dies in two mini series (sales wise) and also is killed in Siege #2. Hm. "Ares the Mighty War God Resurrection" coming in a comic book store in the near future; I'm guessing right near you?

So it comes down to this THE GREATEST COMIC I EVER READ WAS "Death of Captain Marvel" 1982 Marvel Graphic Novels. Captain Marvel makes his final journey while on his death bed. He travels his path fighting those he has fought many time before and struggles he has had in his life as well. He struggles at the end to find his nemesis Thanos who at this time is encased in stone (killed by the Avengers) but travels with him along the path of death. However at the end its a simple kiss by lady Death (not the Chaos character, but I knew Death was a lady anyways) and him and Thanos walk off into eternity. Oh by the way Captain Marvel dies on his death bed surrounded by all his friends from, hey heres a new concept, CANCER!

So just maybe one day this decade R.I.P.will mean REST IN PEACE but I simply doubt it. Oh, by the way, Thanos was resurrected in 1990 in Silver Surfer (vol 3) #34 and has a new book in May 2010 of course in a comic book store near you!

How MUCH?

Okay I grew up in the comic book world in 1982 (12 years young) and the magic cover price for a issue was .60 cents. Coolness .60 whole cents for a full pages of excitement, thrills and get this a sweet story line. I listened patiencly in line as box holders would be paying for their comics grunting the whole time .60 for a comic they are out pricing the customer. I would joyfully hand my favorite comic book store owner my 1.00 for my issue of Avengers. I would race home on my Huffy Pro sport bike making sure to hold the comic just perfect not to bend it. Of course I just spent .60, I must take care of my new comic to add it to my mounting stash of almost 10 comics.

Then it happen the dreaded April 1985 is when my life changed. I got some extra money for my birthday so went to pick up my issue of the Avengers #254 but something isn't right. The cover says .65 cents. "Whats this!" I yell in my mind ARE they crazy I'm just a kid for crying out loud!!! Now I slowly recovered but not even as the Bronze age ended it happen again "BANG BANG" issue #264 comes out and it says .75 cents I look up and say to my friend they are out pricing the customer how could they do this? I found myself in my circle of huge comic book fans (because of course I now owned almost 30 comics ) saying "do you remember when comics were just .60 cents"?

So you hunker down and drop a few titles but that last for about 3 months and your mind just starts to say you need more. You mow more lawns you get a paper route. You do everything you can do to get one more copy a week. But it simple doesn't end. You hit your breaking point for me it was $1.00. (or was it High school and girls?) No Mas I said and took a chapter of my life and said no more comics. MMMM how did that turn out I'll let you know after I do my Taxes for my comic book store I own.

So you all know the story over the decades prices have rising to a astounding average of $2.99 a issue and as they sneak the $3.99 issue out more and more every week I Now hear a rumble from that 12 year old saying to his click of groupies "remember when comics were only $2.50?

Boy they are just out pricing the customer aren't they?

The Cross Over

IN the real world "Cross over" can mean a lot of things. Michael Jordan did it ever night. Sammy Hagar did a "Cross Over" to Van Halen and even good ole well mannered Anakin Skywalker did a Cross over to the Dark side!

But in the Comic book world it means one thing Money! There is a lot of it to spread around as well! Take for instance Civil War, Fall of the Hulks, The Siege and of course the grand daddy of them all Blackest Night!

Now back in time a MINI -series meant just that. (yeah yeah all you transformer fans I know about your mini series) Tales of the Corps came out in a Blockbuster fashion and in three quick issues Bang Bang Nekron Bro you've been beat! Marvel Secret Wars was a cool 12 part series but no crossover there either (now don't get fiesty I know each hero was in their comic on the last page getting transported to the Beyonders playground) and lets not forget about Crisis on Infinite Earth.

However now its HMMMMMMMM.... Green Lantern! WHO is a good cross over to the arc OHH Yea Weird Western Tales and the Question!! (don't get me wrong I like both series) C'mon get with the program collectors shouldn't have to make a decision on new issues like they would have to buying a Avengers #1. They do now and no one should be happy about it either. Hey I own a store and I have to buy tons of it 2 months ahead.

Now This comes from a guy that owns EVERY VARIANT of Lady Death and who's favorite comic is Millie the Model. I still would like to see some sense of crossover compasion from the Big Guys! keep some change in our pocket! Because at the end of the day Big Guys a collector can always CROSSOVER to something else!

It Took ME.......

There was a time in your comic book life when you busted your tail off to get a comic to complete a collection. Now it could be major drek. However it didn't matter you had to get it. Finding a Ambush Bug #2 or a Nfl Super pro #4 (yes it made it past #1) sometimes is harder then finding a New mutants #98. Logic says the seller is going to be putting up his demand items not his supply items. So a simple ebay search isn't going to help you.

MOST store are going to have it in their sale areas and if asked to look for it well good luck. But you are a determined collector and MUST have it. You might pass up a great comic in a long box because you have to find that cover springing out of the box at you and you hug and yell in gleam... I've got it!! You rush it home showing all your friends who seem to say the favorite "great" but you don't hear the sarcasm in their voice. You get a bag and board because you aren't going to use the bag it came in or the board because you Have to pamper that new comic to your collection. You run to log it into your book, you sharpen your pencil and BANG you marked check!! Your body fills with joy, you smile ear to ear. Years of the search is over. You spread out your collection on a table gleaming over NFL Super Pro 1 thru 12. ITS ALL YOURS. The Holy Grail is found the crusade is over.

Now as dramatic as it sounds in my 28 years of collecting I have done this over and over. I love the story telling of how I found it and where. Or the trade I did or the anticipation of the mail man dropping off to me. Now this isn't about Action #1 but tangible comics that anybody could afford. So next time you see that collector rummaging through a drek box it just might be someone on a crusade searching for his Holy Grail. When he finds it try not to say "great" but join in his glory for NO ONE likes to celebrate this GRAND moment by them self.

As most of you know by now Action #1 and Dectective #27 sold for a cool Million each this past week!

Okay again 1 Million each! Now granted these were graded comics both 8.0 and very rare at that But 1 million each? I think NOT! Here is why I DON"T feel this is good for the market.

A large amount of non comic book collectors will now flood the market and take up key issues in hope of a big pay day and won't care about story line or artwork. Us working folks will sit back and just wonder WOW if I had a million I could fill my X-men, Superman, and Avengers run and so forth in the sense of accomplishment.

Comics will continue to be over bought like the New Mutants #98 that just sold for $12,500 yet when you

calculate a 9.9 grade it only comes out to $720.00. How do you calculate your trade or selling value against gaps that big?

Auction house will now be were you will find the better stuff as private collectors send their product there instead of you Local Comic Book store. Creating higher prices because of commision owed to the house for the sale. Which means less chance of us getting the chance to buy at least Book Value.

Auction houses will get more exposure from the press then the local everyday guy trying to pay his rent.

Now don't get me wrong I can sit on the other side and say all the great things that will happen from this.

However for Joe comic book collector its just another Big Boy Buying the Big stuff n the Big world!

Hmmmmmm and as far as grading I wonder.....................nah now thats the million dollar question we all want to know!!
